Riding out the Recession
South West: CornwallAbout Riding out the Recession
Synopsis
Riding out the Recession is a 12,000 mile journey from Cornwall to Cape Town on a bicycle by a recent graduate of Exeter University. The journey aims to raise a minimum of £10,000 for charity.
About:
Sean Maher, who has lived in Cornwall his whole life, graduated in June this year with a politics degree from Exeter University. Unable to find work he decided to Ride out the Recession and explore Africa. The Dark Continent was barely affected by the Credit Crunch as its conservative banking system steered clear of sub-prime debt; however, the gulf in wealth between the UK and Africa is still vast.
The aims of the expedition are to explore the lives of African people and the continent itself as well as raising money for four charities. These are: Wooden Spoon, Pump Aid, Unicef and the Robert Johns Leukaemia Fund.
Sponsorship Opportunity:
There is an opportunity to sponsor the trip itself as well as the charities involved. Any donations above £500 will result in a logo being placed on the official Riding out the Recession cycle jerseys to be used in all press and media coverage from the date the trip leaves onwards.
Companies Already Involved:
Many companies are already involved in the trip. Under Armour, Brooks Saddles and Roberts Radios being three multinationals which have supported the trip. Roberts will release a national press release before departure. Sean will feature in Brooks adverts for two new products he will be testing on his trip.
